Hey Beautiful Peoples!
I'm back with another video and in this one I'll show you all my after night shift routine. I live about 40 minutes away from my job and I work 12-13 hour overnight shifts, so there's not a lot of time to mess around. I need sleep! So these are some of the things I do to get clean, healthy, and to SLEEP!
8:30 AM: Finally Home!!! I have a 40 minute drive home so trust me when I say, my body is yearning for bedtime! I take my shoes off at the front of my house because I don't want to track whatever hospital nastiness they might have on them through my house. The first thing I do is take my dogs out. They've acclimated to my work schedule pretty well, so I take them out first thing in the morning so they can go potty outside. I crate my Husky, Luke, because he gets bored and destructive while I'm gone. I leave my Shiba Inu mix, Leo, out because his anxiety cannot take staying in the crate for that long.
9:00 AM: Shower Time! I love a nice, hot shower when I leave the hospital to really scrub away all the gross stuff I come in contact with at my job. I get to take off my glasses, let down my hair, and focus on taking care of myself. Aaaaahhhhhh. I usually have my wash day before my stretch of shifts, so I can just lightly wet my hair on the days in between. I double cleanse my face while in the shower. First I remove my makeup with a cleansing oil; I love the one by Fourth Ray Beauty. Here I scrub gently with a silicone cleansing pad, also by Fourth Ray. Here After rinsing that off, I clean my face once again with the Even Tone Cleansing Bar by Urban Skin Rx. Here The sponges that it comes with are exfoliating and that really helps with my occasionally dry skin.
9:20 AM: Skincare Routine! Truly one of my favorite parts of going to bed. This is my "Me" time, to invest time and effort into my skin and, quite frankly, my sanity. I'll upload my night time skin routine in the near future, but until then, you can check out my day routine here. It's essentially the same, I just use different serums at night. I am sure to use my new, gorgeous toothbrush day and night. It is a Burst, and mine is in rose gold. The toothbrush has a built-in self-timer and comes with an equally gorgeous travel case. Here I like to wrap my head with a silk wrap so my hair doesn't dry out on my cotton pillowcase. Here
9:40 AM: I like packing my lunch in the morning so I don't have to worry about it when I wake up. I'll usually pack a few healthy snacks as well so I don't feel tempted to waste my coins on delivery or the vending machine.
9:45-10:00 AM: I have had to become REALLY disciplined when it comes to my bedtime routine. I have a naturally, chaotically busy mind. In order to slow it down enough to go to sleep as soon as possible, I cannot look at my phone. So, I put it on the charger and leave it there. I like to read a page or two of whatever book I'm currently reading (here) and power down. I need a good, soft sleeping mask to block out the light that peeks through my curtains. I like this one from Fourth Ray. I also like to have a glass of water on my nightstand so I can start my day hydrating.
And that's it, Night Night! I hope this was helpful for anyone starting out on night shift or thinking about making the switch to night shift. Routine becomes very important for me while I'm on a stretch of shifts. We make a TON of decisions as nurses, why add more when we're at home, right? Comment below with some of the things you do once you get off shift to keep you, happy, healthy, and feeling human.
